Canyon Hills and Woodcrest Junior High Schools Named CA Schools to Watch

Following campus walkthroughs that included the program’s state director, principals, assistant principals, and staff from current California Schools to Watch (STW), Canyon Hills Junior High School in Chino Hills and Woodcrest Junior High School in Ontario have been officially recognized as California Schools to Watch.
In 1999, criteria for the STW program was initially developed to recognize middle-grade schools that are academically excellent, developmentally responsive, socially equitable, and lead through strong, collaborative leadership. Designated STW schools serve as statewide models to other schools that strive to improve outcomes for all young adolescents while serving the whole child. This national network has grown to include hundreds of eligible schools across 20 states with California being the largest state participant.
Neither Canyon Hills nor Woodcrest are strangers to cultivating a robust positive culture where students thrive and have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. During the 2021/2022 school year, Woodcrest JHS was the first campus within the Chino Valley Unified School District to achieve Platinum recognition through the California Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Canyon hills quickly followed suit earning its Platinum PBIS status during the 2023/2024 school year. Both schols also earned the prestigious designation of a Model PLC School during the 2023/2024 school year. As Model PLC Schools, Cayon and Woodcrest are two of only 53 schools in California recognized for their sustained implementation of collaborative teaching practices and focus on continuous teacher learning to ensure all students achieve at high levels.
We are so proud to celebrate these wonderful schools!
