Chino Valley Unified School District

Student Achievement - Safe Schools - Positive School Climate

McKinney-Vento CARE Program

McKinney-Vento Homeless Education

Serving our District's homeless students, unaccompanied youth, and their families by ensuring school stability and providing support services for academic success.

Federal law mandates the elimination of educational barriers facing homeless children and youth to increase school stability and participation.

Students are considered homeless or in transition if they lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act reauthorized by Title IX, Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

Children and youth experiencing homelessness have the right to:

  • Immediate enrollment, even without records normally required for enrollment
  • Transportation to and from the student's school of origin
  • Academic access and success. This includes free meals and all other academic supports.

Unaccompanied youth (youth not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian) must be enrolled in school immediately, even if they do not have a parent or guardian present.
